ScormFly Extension for InstructorSite Users

How to use the ScormFly Extension for UniversitySite

ScormFly is a video-to-eLearning conversion and streaming service from the makers of UniversitySite.

Creating On-Demand Video Courses

When creating an on-demand course in UniversitySite, the ScormFly Extension allows one to upload video files, such as MP4 files, directly to the course.  After your upload is complete, the ScormFly extension creates a SCORM wrapper around your video and begins optimizing your video file for both high and low bandwidth playback, along with optimizing it for mobile devices.

  1. Create an On-Demand Course.

  2. Expand the On-Demand Content section | Select Video | from Add Video Content:

  3. Save Course.

Working with Video Options

Now that the On-Demand video course has been created, you can modify the Video Options via the Course page. You have the ability to add Chapters or synchronize a PowerPoint presentation, configure verification prompts, and set completion percentage.

Adding Chapters

Adding Chapters does 2 things – first, it creates a Table of Contents in the upper left corner of the video and second, it marks each Chapter on the progress bar.

  1. From the Course Overview page (not the Edit Course page), under On-Demand Content | Video Options.

  2. Select Video with Chapters and then under Chapter Settings, add the Chapter Name and start time for each chapter. Add and Remove extra chapters at the bottom of the list.

  3. Click the Save Settings button.

Synchronize Video with PowerPoint Presentation

Commonly, you can hear and see the speaker clearly, but cannot read the presentation that’s projected on the screen. With the Video with PowerPoint option, you can synchronize the speaker’s PowerPoint presentation with the video. The slides appear in the upper right-hand corner, and learners can click the slides to read the content.

Learner Tip: In the upper-right corner, click the Slide to enlarge.

  1. From the Course Overview page (not the Edit Course page), under On-Demand Content | Video Options.
  2. Select Video with PowerPoint and then under Slide Settings click to upload the PowerPoint file.
  3. From Chapter Settings, verify the Name (Slide Title) and add the Start Time for each slide in the presentation.
  4. Click the Save Settings button.

Additional Video Options

  •          The Slide Settings option allows you to replace the PowerPoint presentation.
  •          The Download Video File option allows you to download the original video file used to create the on-demand course.
  •          The Replace Video File option allows you to upload a new version.
  •          The Captions option allows you to upload, rename, and delete caption files.

Verification Prompts

For compliance purposes, you may need to verify that the learner was present and attentive during video playback. With Verification Prompts, you choose how many times the video will pause playback for verification purposes.

  1. From the Course Overview page (not the Edit Course page), under On-Demand Content | Video Options.

  2. Scroll down to the Compliance Options section and set the number of Verification Prompts you want to pop up during the video.

  3. Click the Save Settings button.

Global Settings

You have the ability to set defaults for all newly uploaded videos that are converted and streamed by the ScormFly Extension. The default video option settings include:

  •          Allowing learners to increase the playback speed using the Rabbit icon located in the upper-right corner.
  •          Disabling the Seek Bar for the entire video
  •          Changing the number of Verification Prompts per video
  •          Changing the Completion Percentage per video

To modify these options, search for "global settings scorm" and from the list, choose "Courses - Default ScormFly Video Settings" or go to Your Name dropdown | Global Settings | under Courses click Default ScormFly Video Settings.

Note about Completion Percentage

The default is set to 90%, and we highly recommend leaving this as is, especially if the video has a fade to black or rolling credits at the end. Most users will not watch the credits, and if the Completion Percentage is set to 100, then users who don’t watch until the very last second will show an Incomplete status.
