Hong Kong - How to Track Requirements

Tracking Requirements for the Hong Kong License

To understand the Hong Kong license, you need to understand the below fields and what they determine.

Practitioner Number – Bar Number or License Number for this license.

Date Admitted - is the date the user was admitted to the Bar.

Practice Commencement Date - is the day you began as a Non-Principal. This determines the first day of your first period as a Non-Principal and your requirements.

Principal Commencement Date - you need to enter this date to determine when the principal period and requirements begin.

Requirements

Hong Kong Solicitors have a CPD requirement and an RME requirement. In CLESite, they are handled separately. CPD Points may not apply to RME. However, most RME will also count toward the CPD requirement.

Non-Principal Requirements

If the Principal Commencement Date falls between 24 July and 31 October, you are within 100 days from the end of the reporting cycle. The requirements for this first period are as follows:

• The CPD requirement is pro-rated according to the Practice Commencement Date.

• There is no RME requirement. You must complete the Core Course for Non-Principals in the next reporting period.

If the Practice Commencement Date falls between 1 November and 23 July, you are not within 100 days from the end of the reporting cycle. The requirements for this first period are as follows:

• The CPD requirement is pro-rated according to the Practice Commencement Date.

• The RME requirement is to complete the Core Course for Non-Principals.

For periods after the first period where the Core Course for Non-Principals is required, the requirements going forward are as follows:

• The CPD requirement is 15 Points.

• The RME requirement is 3 RME Electives.

Principal Requirements

If the Practice Commencement Date falls between 24 July and 31 October, you are within 100 days from the end of the reporting cycle. The requirements for this first period are as follows:

• The CPD requirement is 15 CPD Points. In this period, you were a Non-Principal and then moved to be a Principal. But since both would need to make 15 CPD points, this requirement doesn’t change.

• There is no RME requirement. You must complete the Core Course for Principals in the next reporting period.

If the Practice Commencement Date Falls between 1 November and 23 July, you are not within 100 days from the end of the reporting cycle. The requirements for this first period are as follows:

• The CPD requirement is 15 CPD Points. In this period, you were a Non-Principal and then moved to be a Principal. But since both would need to do 15 CPD points, this requirement doesn’t change.

• The RME Requirement is to complete the Core Course for Principals.

For periods after the first period where the Core Course for Principals is required, the requirements going forward are as follows:

• The CPD requirement is 15 Points.

• The RME requirement is 3 RME Electives.

Entering Points

When entering credits for Hong Kong, remember that CPD and RME are tracked separately. Enter the Number of CPD Points. If the course also applies to the RME Requirement, enter the number of points in the correct RME credit type.

Whatever is entered as CPD will apply to the 15 CPD Requirements. Whatever is entered as RME will apply to the RME requirement for the period.
