Add New Version vs Delete existing Version of elearning package
Over the years a common question has come up concerning whether or not to delete an existing version of a SCORM elearning package in a course when you have an updated version or whether to just add the new version.
It also comes up when you add a new version and discover that some people are getting the old version not the new version when they take the course. Read on, but you will find that people who get the old version had already started the course whereas people who had never taken the course get the new version. No need to send out different links.
Delete the old version when...
When you want EVERYONE to take the new version, even those people who were in progress (not complete yet) on the old version, then delete the existing version.
Important note: Deleting the existing elearning package (NOT the course) has NO impact on people's records so if they completed the course previously this doesn't change.
Guide: Consider carefully if you choose to delete the existing version however because you WILL be requiring those already in progress to start over and sometimes this could mean a lot of time wasted e.g. when the course is 45 mins or longer.
Add a new version when...
When you want to allow people who had started the old version to be allowed to complete it BUT you want any new people who take the course to get the new version, then add a new version.
