Manage Content Providers for Courses

With the addition of the Content Provider field for all courses, you can now track and distinguish internal courses from courses you add from a third party.

You'll find the new Content Provider field below the Tags in the course profile section of the Course editor.

Viewing Content Providers assigned to courses

Our reports and course downloads now include this field so once you have set this up you can view all your courses and content providers assigned by downloading the courses from the courses page.

Setting up and using Content Providers

The easiest way to start using it is to do the following for each content provider you want to track.

Note: Since you can only create a content provider while working with a course it's necessary to visit the course editor to add these Content Providers

  1. From ANY existing (works with new courses also), edit the course
  2. Type in the name of a content provider you want to track e.g. "Internal"
  3. Save your course...this creates and assigns that new provider
  4. Visit Content Providers in Global Settings in InstructorSite and set a default for it if appropriate for new courses.  This takes care of NEW courses but keep reading to see what you can do to update existing courses in bulk.
  5. To Bulk update existing courses Export the Training Courses from the Import/Export Global setting
  6. Using the exported Training Courses.csv, update the Content Provider column with the names of the previously created content providers that you want to assign (See steps 1-3 above)
  7. Using your now updated Traning Courses.csv with the Content Provider information supplied, Import this .csv using the Training Courses import from Import/Export in Global settings.

Renaming Content Providers

This is easy. Just visit the Content Providers item in Global Settings and use the drop down menu to rename it. 

Deleting Assigned Content Providers from Courses 

To remove a content provider from a single course just edit that course and click the X in the field 

To remove the content provider from multiple courses at once do the following.

  1. Export Training courses from Import/Export in global settings
  2. Filter for the content provider you want to remove
  3. Either use search and replace to update all cells with that content provider text with nothing (so it's blank) or using other editing steps remove the content value you want to delete from those courses.
  4. It's not necessary to include other courses in your csv that you need to import as an update so it's a good idea just to remove any rows you don't intend to update then save the csv
  5. Import your updated CSV in which you changed the existing content provider value to nothing (you deleted it so it's blank) 
  6. If you removed it from EVERY course it was previously assigned to it will no longer appear in the drop down menu as an option.
