How to Move User Sync to a New Server

Sometimes cloud customers will need to move the User sync and SSO apps for UniversitySite to a new web server.

Here is how you do it.

Moving the User Sync

  1. To find the web server where you probably have those two apps configured in your network access Global Settings in UniversitySite
  2. Select the Login item under the User's section
  3. Note the server for the server name used for the URL e.g. //servername/UniversitySiteSSO/Default.aspx
  4. From your web server where you have these apps configured, COPY the c:\program files(x86)\Profiscience Partners\User Sync (possibly Active Directory Import) folder to the clipboard
  5. On the NEW web server create the parent folder structure you found the User Sync tool within and past your clipboard into this folder.  You should be pasting into the c:\program files(x86)\Profiscience Partners\ folder.
  6. Back on the original web server, Export the Scheduled task that was running the User sync (typicall called something like "UniversitySite User Sync" to an .xml file
  7. Copy the exported .xml file somewhere easily found on the NEW web server.
  8. On the NEW web server open Task Scheduler and Import the .xml file you exported previously
  9. Adjust any passwords or user accounts if you need to change what account runs the task
  10. Confirm the path specified for the exectuable is the same as what is on the NEW server
  11. Test your scheduled task at least once by running it manually and confirming you get a "completed successfully 0x0" for last run result and that you get the email it should send upon completion.
  12. Check the User Sync log in UniversitySite Global Settings to see if your sync appears in the list of syncs it has tracked
