How does the UniversitySite Search Work?

UniversitySite has two basic kinds of searches in our website.
1. Global Search at the top of every page in both LearningSite and InstructorSite
2. Search this page appears on many pages in LearningSite and InstructorSite for finding items within the set of items displayed on that page.
Global Search Results will display in categories that matches are found within  in this order:
Within each section of results
  1. reports - asc alpha sort on name
  2. global settings - asc alpha sort on name
  3. tags - asc alpha sort on name
  4. audiences - asc alpha sort on name
  5. departments - asc alpha sort on name
  6. plans - asc alpha sort on name
  7. events - sorted desc by date, then asc by alpha sort on Title
  8. on demand courses - asc alpha sorted on prefix+number
  9. instructor-led courses - asc alpha sort on prefix+number
  10. video resources - asc alpha sort on name
  11. document resources - asc alpha sort on name
  12. credits - asc alpha sort on name
  13. users - asc alpha sort on name
  14. app store - asc alpha sort on name

Search this page Results display alpha sorted asc based on the name of the item type except when the item is a course, in which case it is alpha sorted asc on prefix+number.

Miscellaneous

Misspellings are not corrected so if the string is found results are returned otherwise not.  If you search for singular "car" you will find both "car" and "cars" but "car fast" will not match "cars fast" since the string is tokenized.

Capitalization is ignored for search results.  Since results are tokenized.

Spaces are part of a search token so if you search for a course called "Coaching and Counseling" you would find it if you type "coaching and" or if you were to type "coaching", or "counseling".  You would also find it if you typed "coaching       and" since multiple spaces are assumed to be one.
