Using UniversitySite’s Proprietary SSO over HTTPS

Preface

In 2017, support for SAML based SSO providers was added to UniversitySite.  For security reasons, Profiscience recommends using a SAML based SSO provider instead of UniversitySite's proprietary SSO provider however, there are yearly fees for using a SAML provider, contact Lawren.Finley@profiscience.com for more information.

How to determine if UniversitySite is using UniversitySite’s proprietary SSO:

  1. Visit InstructorSite
  2. Click on your name to reveal the drop down
  3. Click on Global Settings
  4. Click on Login Settings

UniversitySite SSO relies on a web server hosted by your organization.

How to confirm your web server is properly configured for HTTPS:

  1. Visit InstructorSite
  2. Click on your name to reveal the drop down
  3. Click on Global Settings
  4. Click on Login Settings
  5. Note the URL in the screenshot above
  6. Open that URL in your browser using HTTPS, for example, https://localhost/UniversitySiteSSO/Default.aspx
  7. If your organization has properly configured the web server for HTTPS, you will see a white screen listing your Windows login username
  8. If your organization has NOT properly configured the web server for HTTPS, you will see an error.  Give that URL to your internal IT Department and ask them to configure the web server to enable HTTPS.
