Set Cache to Expire After Patching

Background

The latest patch includes some changes to the LearningSite toolbar in the background, which unfortunately often causes the navigation bar items to disappear UNLESS you force user browsers to reload cache by expiring it when that cache is say older than 5 hours.  For best results it is usually a good idea to leave this setting in place for 2 days or so after the patch to ensure users don't load old cached files resulting in missing nav bar items.

Steps

1. Open IIS on your UniversitySite web server
2. Expand the UniversitySite web folder
3. Select the Learner folder beneath the UniversitySite web folder
4. Double click HTTP Response Headers
5. From the Actions pane choose Set Common Headers
6. Check the box to Expire Web content and select After 5 Hours
7. Click OK
8. After two days come back in and uncheck Expire web content
